Plot Outline: Famous actors, directors and writers reminisce about their careers and the philosophy behind their careers.
Plot: James Lipton interviews some of today's most talented actors, directors and writers. In the audience are students and famous alumni of the Actors Studio's master of fine arts program. The interviewees talk about their childhood, how they got started in show business, their early career and behind-the-scenes trivia. The interview concludes with a standardized questionnaire that includes such questions as “What is your favorite word?” and “If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive?” After that, Lipton and the interviewee move to a classroom where the M.F.A. students can question the interviewee directly.

Movie Quotes: James Lipton: What is your least favorite word?
Mark Wahlberg: Is “Marky Mark” one word?

Crazy Credits: We know about 2 Crazy Credits. One of them reads:
While the main credits appear as: Starring Adam Rifkin, Angie Everhart and Introducing Tony Markes as Nick Decker, only Adam and Tony are listed in the end credits, even though they are in order of appearance.

Goofs: We know about 1 goofs. Here comes one of them:
Continuity: In “D.W.'s Baby”, when D.W. is playing with her toy truck on the floor, it's brown, but when she offers it to Baby Kate, it's blue.

Trivia: There are 18 entries in the trivia list – like these:

    • During Robin Williams's interview, a man in the audience had to be removed from the theatre by ambulance. He'd laughed so hard, he'd acquired a hernia.
    • The ten questions by Bernard Pivot that host James Lipton asks every guest are: – 1. What is your favorite word? – 2. What is your least favorite word? – 3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? – 4. What turns you off? – 5. What is your favorite curse word? – 6. What sound or noise do you love? – 7. What sound or noise do you hate? – 8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? – 9. What profession would you not like to do? – 10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
    • Although every single seat is filled at each of the Actors Studio seminars featuring a celebrity, James Lipton recalls the auditorium was filled beyond capacity when Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford were guests on the show.
